This Summer, we were invited by French holiday park specialist Siblu to stay in a three-bedroom Elegance mobile home on one of their sites: Domaine de Kerlann, in Brittany.
Mobile homes, or static caravans, are popular on French campsites. In fact, most of the larger sites have many more of these than the traditional tent pitches, where you rock up with your own tent or camper. The mobile homes are often quite similar, with varying amounts of space; some have verandas or private terraces. The Elegance’s highlights were its barbecue béton, which could be found outside all the mobile homes on this Siblu site; and the large amount of cupboard space. We even had a walk-in wardrobe in our master double bedroom.
Elegance mobile homes are between 31 and 36 m² in size, and are available with either two or three bedrooms. The living space was fairly roomy, with comfortable sofas and a shelving unit to put books, games, DVDs etc. There was a CD player, and a small games/coffee table on coasters.
The kitchen was relatively well-equipped; no dishwasher, but unlike some French mobile homes it had both a hob and oven. There was a decent variety of pots and pans, cutlery and utensils. The fridge/freezer was large enough to hold our food for the week, and there was plenty of cupboard space.
We arrived to a welcome pack of sweet, refreshing local apple juice, traditional Breton biscuits (a bit like shortbread) and the rather more prosaic toilet roll, cleaning cloth, and teas and coffee. For an extra charge you could hire bed linen and towels. Our towels were deep, fluffy and in bright, crisp colours; there were lots of them too, more than we needed for a week. The bedding was a little tired, but perfectly clean.
The bedrooms were on the small side – guests would have been rather squished if they’d crammed in the maximum number of eight, with two in each bedroom and two on the sofa bed – but as a family of four we had tons of room.

There was a small table inside the mobile home, but we ate most of our meals outside, on the terrace. The terrace table would definitely have been large enough for eight guests, and the outside of our Elegance felt private, with a decent amount of space and hedges.
Perfect for some uninhibited holiday high jinks, then….
The children enjoyed the evening when we toasted marshmallows and grilled sardines on the barbecue béton. We didn’t have any firelighters; they were available in the on-site shop, but instead Gwen and her Dad hunted for kindling in the leafier areas of the campsite.
It worked a trick.
If you’d like a video tour of our three-bedroom Elegance, here’s a short clip I took on the first morning of our stay.
